I arrived to Japan on the 1st of June and the first thing on my mind was WOOOWW! I’m in JAPAN! Never thought about it, but what a journey our life could take. Let’s go back a couple days and explain why I’m here.

This “story” starts when the need to find a new job was elicited by my university degree :) After I finish my studies I went to Poland for a mobility program, Leonardo Da Vinci, and I got a internship in a advertisement company, Effectica Poland. I worked there as a Graphic Designer and DTP Publisher and I was able to put my hands on real work and understand how a real company works. I return to Portugal and after some vacations I started my searching for a new job…

I find many offers and I applied to several, some of them call me, some of them ignored me completely. I had some interviews and I was wondering about a good job for me, after a while I realized that’ll never happen soon… Depression aside I continue my search, now I open it to all world. In that time I didn’t have an idea of a country that I wanted to go for work, but I had a clear idea of some countries that are not in my “work in” list. When we considered to work abroad I think we have to think about the all experience and that we are going to have good and bad times. So I had no plans only searching for all jobs offers that I can apply, contact them and wait for an answer back.

Japan was far away (literally) from my thoughts but it come closer when a friend send me an email with details for a job there. They, online language school called Nova, wanted two Portuguese designers for develop a new Portuguese course. The ad suit me so I send them a email with my CV. No expectations when the mail was sent, it was one more among several before, and good part of them without a reply… The surprise was when they reply back pretty fast and they want to schedule a Skype interview! :)

The first interview went very well and I felt confident, they were very easy to talk to and they answer my questions about all the details of the job. I had another interview and few days after I received the confirmation, they decide to offer me the position! It was a hard call to make, leave my country, leave my friends, leave my family…. three days with doubts trying to find the good and the bad points. In the end I had to think about all the difficulties to find a new job in Portugal, and I was looking for a new one for some months. Instead of letting the time pass I had to take this chance! I accepted the work!

And that’s it, now I’m living in Osaka, Japan! Next post I’ll try to give some details about the Japanese life!
